Maceo Parker Wednesday, August 16, 8 p.m. Silent Auction Night
Having played with leaders of soul and funk, Maceo Parker has made a name that's synonymous with funky music and solidified and impeccable pedigree. Parker started his career with James Brown, then jumped aboard the Mothership with George Clinton, and finally played an ongoing part in Prince's tours. Since the 1990s Maceo Parker has been enjoying a blistering solo career and traveled with a band of his own, building a new funk empire that is both fresh and stylistically diverse. Because of the unique quality of his sound, Parker is one of the most sampled musicians around.
"Maceo Parker is a funk titan. His body of work is as important to the genre as those belonging to James Brown, George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, all of whom have collaborated with Parker. On a broader level, Parker must be regarded as simply one of the all-time great saxophonists. He stretched the boundaries of music, fashioned a new style of playing and, most importantly, made some truly great music." - Mercury San Francisco
