Strings Festival Orchestra Finale

Strings Festival Orchestra Finale
Saturday, August 5, 7 p.m.

Strings' Season Finale begins with Vijay Gupta of the Los Angeles Philharmonic as soloist in Arvo Pärts beautifully atmospheric Fratres. The evening continues with Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1, featuring Anne-Marie McDermott, Music Director of Bravo! Vail, and Michael Sachs, Strings Music Director, in an unprecedented collaboration. The season concludes with Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence, originally composed as a sextet, performed here in its version for a full string section.

  • Anne-Marie McDermott joins the orchestra for this concert. Besides being an acclaimed piano soloist, she is the Music Director of our fellow Colorado festival, Bravo!Vail! She and Michael Sachs tried to play this piece together in New York several years ago, but it fell apart due to timing. This is the first time they have ever collaborated together, and we are excited it is in Steamboat!
  • Listen to the season playlist on Spotify to preview the pieces on this concert program.
