The Steamboat Symphony Orchestra plans to delight attendees of its upcoming season opening concertswith a double feature around the theme of ‘rising above calamity through love’. In addition to the many local and out-of-town members of the orchestra who will be performing, ballet dancers from The Canyon Concert Ballet and Broadway soloists from New York City will accompany several of the numbers.

The first half of will feature music from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet ballet. Ballet dancers will join the orchestra in the Young Juliet and the Balcony scene. After the intermission and continuing with the theme, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture will celebrate the victory of freedom over tyranny, followed by Bernstein’s West Side Story, the classic story of love transcending hate. The concert will conclude with selections from Schonberg's Les Misérables, featuring acclaimed singers Siri Howard, who has appeared on Broadway in Les Misérables and The Sound of Music, and Michael Deleget who has been featured at the Theatre at St. Clement’s in New York and in roles with Goodspeed Opera House.

Ernest Richardson, Steamboat Symphony Music Director and Conductor, is planning a very special finale to the concert. "In light of all the conflict in our world, a positive, global musical message about rising above conflict is something the orchestra can contribute to the community," Richardson says. "Nothing on Broadway gets this message across better than the finale to Les Miserables ‘Do You Hear The People Sing.’ It will be a very special part of this performance as a musician and as a concert goer."

To accommodate growing interest in the orchestra, a matinee show has been added to the usual two evening performances.
